Overall I'm happy with this unit; iPod performance is flawless which is what I got it for.Here's the good stuff: - Appearance of the unit is nice looking. Although it is shiny shiny, it's not overloaded with bright multicolored LEDs or wacky shapes. And it's easy to change the illumination color to match the rest of your dash lights. - Sound quality is very good; I went into the advanced settings and tweaked things like the car size, number and sizes of speakers. - The display washes out a fair amount in bright sunlight, though it is still legible. - iPod control is straightforward and works well; I'm using it with an 80GB iPod Classic (haven't tried generic MP3 playback on a CD or a USB drive). My old car had a pioneer deck which had great features [ex: 7-band-eq] but the oel display went out. So I left it in the car when i traded it in.I bought this KDC-X994 about 2-3 weeks ago and installed it myself in my 08 dodge avenger and I love it. It has loads of features. To name a few: -5-band adjustable eq (not 7 but still good enough to create nice crisp low's-mid's-hi's) -5 line lcd display [easy to read ipod info] -handsfree bluetooth (comes with microphone) -rear usb & aux [great for direct ipod control &charging] -variable color illuminatioin for menus and display [really cool colors that can match your factory backlighting] -3(4volt) preouts The sound quality is excellent. Based on all of its specs, my needs, and some customer reviews I found, I decided to give it a try. This absolutely blows away the Alpine I had. Out of the box, the default settings brought new life to my factory speakers. My amp and sub had disappointed me with the Alpine and I thought I was going to have to replace those at some point. NOPE. The sub sounds great now. The iPod song browsing is the best I've seen and the ability to do it with the remote means pedestrians are safer with me driving. This thing is loaded with features to completely customize the sound including DSP settings specific to the size and type of car you have, optimizations for speaker sizes, position-specific balance controls, and full control over the equalizer (or use the presets if you are a novice like me).
