Unlike the proprietary Denon or Yamaha ipoddocks this one you can connect to ANY kind of audio equipment. And unlike the APPLE ipod dock + flimsy tiny remote with no display whatsoever + AV connection kit (= $100) (which I returned to Apple) this remote works via RADIO FREQUENCY from across the room and through walls if it has to be. The remote even has a DISPLAY that shows you what's playing - you know, kind of useful when you're across the room. You can even navigate through your ipod's menu; that's never been easy and it doesn't get easier using a remote without clickwheel, but it works.What really blew me away is that I was able to also program my Aquos TV, my Sony receiver, my Sony Blue Ray and my Panasonic VHD/DVD combo. Those devices it controls via INFRARED, just like your original factory remotes that came with whatever you bought, and therefore you have to point the remote at your TV etc when operating those... It also does a *really* good job at setting up your other equipment, and learning IR codes that it didn't know right away. If that's all you want, then consider this a five star review.BUT: 1) It works horribly as a DVR remote. For some reason, this remote has a "Live TV" button, but no "Exit", "Last" or "Info" buttons, and no obvious place to which to map them if you wanted to. For me, these three are heavy-hitters in watching TV with a DVR, or even a normal Cable or Satellite box. Beware. 2) With your iPod in the dock, you CANNOT use the iPod's interface; the whole screen is taken up with a Philips logo( unlike in the product picture), and pressing buttons does nothing. So, in spite of the limited amount of information I could find on the web about this remote, I felt it was worth the risk.The remote works as advertised for me. It controls my 32 GB iPod Touch (3rd Gen) with no problems. It also controls my oddball set of A/V components - Scientific Atlanta cable box, Marantz receiver, Samsung LCD TV, and LG Blu-Ray player. Programming the remote is very easy and intuitive, thanks to the step-by-step instructions you get on the LCD screen of the remote. The IR signal is much stronger than my original Time Warner remote, so I've now dumped that one in favor of the Philips. For controlling music playback with my iPod, it seems to do everything my iPod can do. It can browse my collection (albeit clumsily) and I can choose songs or albums to play (or podcasts, etc).
